5 X Olympic Medalist Simone Biles had this to say yesterday on her social media account regarding her ADHD medications:
I have ADHD and I have taken medicine for it since I was a kid. Please know, I believe in clean sport, have always followed the rules, and will continue to do so as fair play is critical to sport and is very important to me. Having ADHD, and taking medicine for it is nothing to be ashamed of nothing that I’m afraid to let people know
In our Behind the Wheel With ADHD webinar training programs we address the topic of stimulant medications and how they are presently the only therapeutic intervention for patients with ADHD that has demonstrated the clear ability to improve driving performance. Like Simone, we do not advocate taking any medication that is not necessary, but for those under the care of a physician it is often the case that medication can be a game-changer for drivers with ADHD. Athlete, driver, or student, there should not be judgement surrounding the condition of ADHD nor the medical interventions used to mitigate the symptoms of it.
